This is Sandra’s eleventh year of teaching at ACS. Before that, she taught music and grade 7 at Surrey Christian School. She thought she escaped the sounds of music (beginning band) when she transitioned back to ACS (this time as a teacher, not a student) as a Grade 8 teacher and Vice-Principal, but somehow, it found her back. Sandra loves all things curriculum and dreaming up new projects and ideas that lead to deeper learning and meaningful engagement in the students she teaches…even when it means fighting off feisty raccoons near explosions in the classroom. While she will miss teaching her homeroom class this year, she will enjoy teaching at least 2/3rds of the Middle School more about the arts this year. When not dreaming of projects and curricular ideas, she can be found helping her husband with his photography business, and nurturing the best project she’s been given, raising her 6 year old daughter. You can also always find her with a coffee in hand.
Tym is in his seventh year as the principal of the middle campus, his 16th year at ACS and 24th year as a teacher. He is a husband to Sharon and the father of four amazing kids. He loves tinkering with stuff and has a pretty good assortment of tools and a garage full of car and bicycle parts. One of his favourite things to do is make something useful out of a bunch of spare parts; he enjoys the creativity and problem solving this entails. He enjoys running and sports of all kinds, though there is nothing finer than a nap on the couch with a football game on the TV!
Krista is a full-time homemaker who spends her days caring for her husband and 5 boys and stealing rare moments of peace when she can find them. She is a firm believer in organization and having a plan but has learned along the way that God has a real sense of humor as He completely threw out her plans years ago. Her 5 boys range in age from 5-18 so while she is navigating this new world of sending her oldest off to college, she is also sending her baby to Kindergarten. Life is rarely organized but never dull at the Brandsma house. When the wrestling, play fighting, and practical jokes overwhelm her, she simply turns her music up and sings louder.
Amy Braun has been teaching at Abbotsford Christian School for four years. If you walk into her classroom she might be leading her class in some exercise routine or practicing their counting while touching their knees to their opposite elbow. This love of movement overflows into the rest of her life as well, spending time at the lake, hiking a mountain, camping, and overall enjoying an active lifestyle with her new husband. She also loves thrift store shopping and wearing scarves.
Gerry loves everything to do with wind and water! He loves stunt kites, sailing, and especially time spent on his Hobie 16 in the Okanagan. After learning at UBC, SFU, Briercrest Bible College and TWU, he spent two years in Japan and 20 years at Cedars Christian School in Prince George, and then joined the Abbotsford community in 2011. His wife and best friend Debbie (who he met while tree planting in northern B.C) teaches kindergarten at ACS Elementary. His two oldest children are in University (nursing) and his son Sam goes to school at ACS. His dog is Lucy. His nickname in the staff room is “Sparky.”
Cheryl is a mom to three elementary kids, a wife and an occasional teacher. Her boomerang life has her back at home again after off and on teaching. Back in the day she even went to ACS, and her photo can be found on one of those “Class of …” frames in the halls of the Secondary School. Her current roles include: cook, dishwasher, playmate, piano and homework supervisor, chauffeur, sibling, daughter, auntie, protector of the pets, gardener, crafter, book-worm, and anything else that must be done before her least favourite task…laundry.
Born in Ontario, Julius started teaching grade 6 and elementary PE in 1996 in a small Christian school in California. Within two years he was teaching high school US History (as a Canadian), heading up the PE program (K-12), and running the athletics program. In 2001 he was asked to move into administration and has been in school administration ever since, getting a Masters in Educational Leadership in 2006. Julius met Heidi in California and they started their family together there having three wonderful children. Although they miss the weather of California, the move to Abbotsford (in 2007) has been great for their family, and ACS is quite possibly the best school in the world for their kids! Julius aspires to see education turned on its head so that all kids will actually love learning K-12.
Roy has been on staff at ACS for more than two decades! While most of us know him as the elementary principal, over the years he has also been a grade five teacher, grade seven teacher, vice principal, and community relations coordinator. He and his wife Jane have two children and two grandchildren. He enjoys cycling and fondly remembers cycling from Victoria to Edmonton as part of the 10th annual Cycling for Celiacs ride. If an opportunity to go canoeing or kayaking presents itself, Roy will jump at it, carefully.
